5 Things That Happened in Digital This Week – April 10, 2015

As always, it was a busy week in digital marketing so we’re bringing you our top five in tech and digital.

Facebook Messenger joined the Web.

Facebook rolled out a web version of their massager app. The new web platform can be found at messenger.com and is completely separate from the rest of the site. However, unlike the messenger app, Facebook is claiming that is will not force users to open a separate browser window to use the service and Facebook chat will still be available within Facebook’s platform.

Your BFF Started Communicating Through Emoji Only

Apple released their newest software update, iOS 8.3. Though the update includes several improvements to Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth speaker options, CarPlay, iCloud and Siri (who can now take dictation in Arabic and Hebrew), the most notable update was the addition of new emoji. This update adds a set of more diverse emoji and a new emoji menu layout.

The Apple Watch was reviewed

By almost everyone, and while there were some naysayers most of the reviews were positive. Reviewers are praising the watches sleek design and interface while some are confused by the watch-making terminology that is used throughout the device set up and disappointed by its short battery life.

Twitter Experimented With Search

Some users have experienced a totally new way to search twitter this week due to some beta testing the company has been conducting. The new search layout allows tweet filtering by clicking on tabs at the top of the page. The tabs are separated into “top” for top tweets, “live” for tweets by chronological order, “photos” and “videos” to sort out tweets by media, and “accounts” to search for specific Twitter users.

Snapchat Also Joined the Emoji Party

Avid Snapchat users where bummed in January when the photo sharing app took down it’s popular “best friends” in response to privacy concerns. This week the snapchatters of the world can finally feel creepy again as Snapchat rolled out an update which uses emoji to clue users in on their Snapchat friend status.
