Any time a food company faces an issue with food safety, they’re going to struggle with sales. However, Chipotle isn’t just any food company — it’s a company that has used smart PR tactics for over a decade, touting slogans like “Food With Integrity,” and “Responsibly Raised.” Its customers not only love the food but they also love the brand. Clearly, Chipotle cares about relating to its customers, and with an issue as big as this, I think it will be interesting to see how PR messaging will adapt — or stay the same — as Chipotle tackles their food safety problem.
