Why Twist the Tongue for Twitter?
Last summer, Cohn Marketing began encouraging certain clients to consider incorporating Twitter as part of an online communications strategy. It’s not for everyone, but with our encouragement and a sound strategy, a handful of clients started embracing – and successfully making new business contacts using Twitter.
New Twitter vocabulary began appearing on a weekly if not daily basis. Tweets, handles, hashtags, retweets, and eventually twibes all emerged as Twitter vernacular. So we decided to have some fun with it to see – could we create something that would go viral on Twitter?
The Twitter Twongue Twister was born.
In 140 characters or less, people started creating tongue twisters to tweet to their followers. Our goal is to see how many tongue twisters can be created, tweeted, and retweeted on Twitter. We created, we tweeted, we encouraged friends, colleagues, media, celebrities, followers, random people on the street, and family members to write their own twister and pass it on.
Our goal is that in 14.0 weeks, we will have generated the largest group of Twitter Twongue Twisters to ever be tweeted. The experiment ended on November 4th – stay tuned for our learnings coming in a full report in January!
