While you were fast asleep last night, Facebook was busy! We knew Facebook was set to launch Timeline for Pages today but were surprised to find it up and running on several premier brand pages first thing this morning (obviously some of the BIG brands had some advance notice). As we have been reading and experimenting with the new layout, we wanted to share some key observations and tips regarding Mark Z’s latest and greatest alterations: PART 1: TIMELINE 1. Super Bowl Ad-a-Thon 2012: One company really gets it.

Jeff Cohn 02.08.12 Clint brand strategy

One of America’s favorite pastimes is the ubiquitous water cooler discussion on Super Bowl Monday. Around the office, breakfast table and coffee house, everyone likes to share their opinions on what spot was funny, interesting, well done, etc. No doubt, it’s a lot of fun. But as a marketer, it always gives me great pause to wonder if the investment is worth the return. Does anyone really remember or take action from these spots? Maybe that’s not the intent. Maybe it’s just about brand building, creating awareness for the brand, the product, the newest of …

“The Power of 10” — A Year Later

Jeff Cohn 12.26.11 Picture 13 brand strategy

Marketing is active; the industry moves quickly. Sometimes, we all move so quickly that even great work has a relatively short shelf life in our memories. Other times, the work is so powerful that it seems to live on in our hearts even years later. For our company’s 10-year anniversary, I wanted our team to construct a memorable campaign that would celebrate our success, bring the team together and linger in our minds for years to come. “The Power of 10” did just that. The result was a philanthropic initiative that asked the general public …

CJ Powell 12.16.11 Picture 12 brand strategy

For those that don’t already know, Cohn Marketing has had a busy fourth quarter. In November, we were selected to work with a number of new, well-known and respected clients. Our Dallas office has also been busy, landing another industry giant in Galleria Dallas. And one of our longest standing clients, DDR, earlier this month introduced a groundbreaking program called ValuText, which has been gaining a lot of traction in the retail and technology worlds. Cohn actually developed the ValuText program for DDR from the ground up, so it’s been fun to watch the program …

Is Siri the one answering my tweets?

CJ Powell 11.21.11 Picture 4 public relations

Spoiler alert: I’m about to blow your mind. It recently occurred to me yesterday that the human tone behind so many corporate social media accounts may not be coming from a human at all. If Apple can create a phone that can converse like a human, why couldn’t the same technology be used to manage social media accounts? I’ll preface this entire post by saying I don’t believe that automated responses—however human they may sound—are a smart approach to social media. At BlogWorld 2011 earlier this month, I was shocked to learn that social media …

Coming Around to Social Marketing

COHN 09.12.11 social media

I have to be honest: I was a hard sell on the relevance, let alone the importance, of social media marketing. I viewed my Facebook account as purely a place to laugh and joke with friends – and spy on old friends. When I started a Facebook page for a previous business I worked on, I viewed it as an irrelevant burden. However, as I have continued to force myself to learn more about it, and understanding just how many people use it, I have become a proponent for social media marketing. What makes social …
